Action required to renew domain emails

In August 2021, auDA (.au Domain Administration Limited) made changes to their policies that mean that prior to renewal of an .au domain name, the eligibility for the domain must be reviewed.   As a result of this, you may have received an email about not being eligible to renew the domain.

If you have received an email titled "Action required to renew yourdomain.com.au" it's likely that your business has changed in some way.  Often you have a new ABN or ACN and your old ABN or ACN has been cancelled.

Often, you can resolve this by submitting a Change of Registrant request (also known as a Transfer of Legal Registrant).  You'll find information about this here in our knowledge base, along with a form you can download and complete.  When we receive the completed form, we'll then send you out an invoice for the service.

The cost of an .au Change of Registrant request is $75.00 AUD, which includes 2 years of re-registration.

You may also be able to resolve this if you're a sole trader... simply by re-activating your ABN here.

An example of the email sent can be seen below.

Please note:  This email has been sent to you from auDA using our email address, and often we're unaware that it has been sent.  We can only assist you by processing your CoR.  The auDA policy states that you should "continue to be eligible" for a domain name.  If you aren't eligible to hold an .au domain name, you will certainly receive this email before your domain name can be renewed again.

Hello,

Our records indicate that the ABN/ACN currently associated with yourdomain.com.au is not currently eligible to hold this domain name. Action is required, or the domain may unfortunately not be eligible to be renewed.

The registrant, ABN 970075338559 is listed as invalid and action needs to be taken to be eligible to hold the domain.

What action do I need to take?

If you wish to maintain the registration for yourdomain.com.au, you will need to provide some relevant information through a manual Change of Registrant (CoR).  You can initiate a Change of Registrant by following the instructions in our support area.

You are able to perform a CoR if you meet section 5.5 of the 2004-01 - Complaints - (Registrant Eligibility) Policy, which states if;

a) You have a document dated prior to when ABN 97007544659 was invalid, stating that the domain license was sold or gifted to the entity or individual currently using the domain name.

b) the transfer meets the requirements to hold the domain name listed in auDA's Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2011-03).

To look into initiating a manual Change of Registrant, please contact us directly with your relevant documentation so we can assist you with initiating this process.

More information around the policy

2019-01 - .au Domain Administration Rules: Licensing Policy, Section 2.14 of the policy states that a registrant may renew their domain license provided that they continue to be eligible to hold their domain name license.
