Custom DNS records

How do I set up custom DNS records?

Custom DNS records are required by some services such as Google Apps, and some other site building applications.

Custom DNS records cannot be set up under any of our standard plans. To have them set up, you will require a "Custom DNS hosting" plan in addition to any hosting plans or domain names that you have with us. The cost of this is $29.95 per year.

To request custom DNS records, please order the custom DNS plan through your client area.  When logged in, follow the steps below;

  1. Under the "Services" menu, choose "Order new services"

  2. In the "Categories" select box, choose "Domain or email forwarding plans"

  3. Click the "Order now" button next to "Custom DNS Hosting"

  4. On the next screen, choose "I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain."

  5. Enter your domain name in the box that appears below, and follow the prompts to complete your checkout and payment.

When you have a Custom DNS plan, you can then log in to your client area to modify your DNS records at any time.

Modifying your Custom DNS records

To modify your custom DNS records, first log in to your client area.

  1. In the drop-down menu under "Domains", choose "Manage DNS".

  2. This page should list any Custom DNS domains you have set up in your account.  To edit the DNS records of a domain, click the "Edit Zone" icon on the right.

  3. The next page shows your current DNS records, which can be edited by modifying the fields, and clicking the "Save Changes" button.  At the bottom of the page you can also add new records.  Please be careful editing these records, as it's likely that any incorrect entries will cause issues with either your site or your email.  Also note that DNS records can take up to 72 hours to propagate throughout the web.

IMPORTANT!

If you currently have Web Hosting, your custom DNS records can be set up alongside your current hosting plan. If you cancel your hosting plan however, your custom DNS records will be removed. To ensure this doesn't happen, you will need to notify us by email that you would like to cancel your hosting plan, and allow us 2 business days to set up separate DNS records for you.
