I want to host my DNS elsewhere. What DNS records do I need to set up?

To host your DNS elsewhere and still have access to your web site, FTP, email, webmail and cPanel, you will need to create the following DNS records.  If you're hosting your mail elsewhere, then you'll need to omit the records relating to mail listed below.

Of course, you will need to substitute yourdomain.com.au with your actual domain name when setting up your records;

Domain Record type Record
yourdomain.com.au A Your server's IP address
www.yourdomain.com.au CNAME yourdomain.com.au
mail.yourdomain.com.au A Your server's IP address
yourdomain.com.au MX mail.yourdomain.com.au
cpanel.yourdomain.com.au A Your server's IP address
webmail.yourdomain.com.au A Your server's IP address
ftp.yourdomain.com.au A Your server's IP address

Please note that if you want to ensure that your site stays online, we recommend setting up custom DNS records with us rather than hosting your DNS elsewhere.  This is because we may need to move your site to a different server at any time.  Hosting your DNS with us ensures that we're able to do so at a moments notice.  Hosting your DNS elsewhere means that we cannot offer you our 99.99% up-time guarantee.
